Here’s what Hip teammate Rachel had to say after trying this cereal:

“I tried Magic Spoon cereal for the first time and I’m genuinely impressed. It’s tough finding something low-carb that still tastes great, but this hits the mark. Plus, the high protein content is a bonus. The Oatmeal Cookie flavor is a standout – it’s not just my new favorite, but my 7-year-old loves it too. It’s a win when you find something healthy that the whole family enjoys. Definitely recommend giving it a try if you’re looking for tasty, guilt-free breakfast options.”

We’re even more impressed that they brought in new flavors of cereal bars, too!

New to Magic Spoon are their high-protein cereal bars that come in a variety of flavors. But they’re not what you’d expect from traditional protein bars. There’s no chalkiness or excessive sugars added. Just indulgent flavors with no gluten, artificial ingredients, sugars, or even sugar alcohols!

Welcome back to your favorite childhood breakfasts, keto style! 😏👏

pouring in keto cereal from magic spoon box

Many of us already know cereal is notorious for being loaded with sugar and carbs, so it’s a wonder why it ever became what so many people eat first thing in the morning. Thankfully, Magic Spoon did something about it and created a low-carb cereal – ditching the sugar and giving us a cereal packed with protein (and deliciousness!).

Taking Magic Spoon cereal out of pantry

Sounds a little too good to be true, right?

Well, kind of… I’m going to tell you my Magic Spoon Cereal review and include why I’m both liking and disliking this cereal as far as it pertains to both my keto and frugal living lifestyle.

What I love about Magic Spoon Cereal:

opening bag of Magic Spoon cereal

The taste is spot on. 😋

Wondering, “is Magic Spoon cereal good?” Yes, it’s really delicious! My keto tastebuds may be tuned a little differently than others, but I was so blown away!

Every single bite is totally magical. 🤩

Magic Spoon cereal was originally released in four flavors: Fruity, Frosted, Cocoa, and Cinnamon Roll. Out of the four, my top favorites have been the cinnamon and frosted varieties. My brother-in-law Stetson even tried out the cereal, and he also loved the Cinnamon Roll flavor (he said they reminded him of Cinnamon Toast Crunch). Um…SOLD! 😍

The brand often releases new flavors, too.

Most recently, we saw the return of the limited addition Honey Graham flavor which was accompanied by Oatmeal Cookie. YUM!

Their core flavors include Fruity, Frosted, Cocoa, and Cinnamon Roll. Their newer (well, newer-ish) flavors include Blueberry Muffin, Peanut Butter, Maple Waffle, and Birthday Cake.

“Okay, this flavor is on point! It’s the perfect blend of chocolate and vanilla, super satisfying, and my favorite flavor. I am SUPER picky about keto cereal, and this one doesn’t even taste like you would assume keto cereals taste. 🤣

In fact, I just made keto trail mix with the Cookies & Cream flavor and I can’t stop munching on it! It’s SO yummy. I recommend trying this one!” – Lina

Stetson and I really love the Peanut Butter flavor!

All Magic Spoon cereal is satisfyingly crunchy and perfectly sweet, but the Peanut Butter is an absolute game-changer. In fact, it’s a best-seller of Magic Spoon! Our Magic Spoon cereal review for this flavor is two thumbs WAY up!

Both Stetson and I declared it our absolute favorite of all the Magic Spoon flavors, and I was ordering more before my bowl was even empty! 😬

Magic Spoon uses great alternative sweeteners. 🍯

Many times when sugar is removed from a product, it’s replaced with a not-so-great-for-you sweetener. When I checked the ingredients list on the Magic Spoon box, I was pleasantly surprised to see Allulose, monk fruit, and stevia as the sweeteners. Those are all non-sugar options that are totally keto-friendly! YES! 👏

Magic Spoon cereal ingredients:

Ingredients: Milk Protein Blend, Sweetener Blend, Oil Blend, Tapioca Starch, Chicory Root Inulin, Natural Flavors, Vegetable Juice for color, Salt, Turmeric Extract, Spirulina Extract.

  • Cocoa Powder in Cocoa flavor only
  • Peanut Butter, Peanut Flour, and Peanut Extract in Peanut Butter flavor only
  • Blueberry Powder in Blueberry Muffin flavor only
  • Cinnamon in Cinnamon flavor only

Magic Spoon never uses any artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives.

Magic Spoon nutrition facts make my keto lifestyle happy too. 😁

Here’s a range of what you’re looking at for each 1 cup serving of this cereal:

  • 140-170 Calories
  • 7-9g of Fat
  • 4-5g Net Carbs (10-14g Total Carbs – 1-2g Fiber – 5-10g Allulose)
  • 12-14g of Protein

Plus, it’s not made with any crazy ingredients that I can’t pronounce, so I feel good about what I’m eating. 🙌

But… here’s what I don’t like about Magic Spoon Cereal:

shipping box with magic spoon cereal

Each box of cereal comes with nearly a $10 price tag, but you can save $5 right now!

In a way, I get it. This is a true keto innovation in the breakfast cereal market, and I’m sure it took quite a bit of R&D (research and development) to get it to taste so darned good.

But come on… almost $10 a box?! My money-saving heart just can’t take that price, so I’m so happy I can REALLY stock up now that we have Magic Spoon discount code HIP2KETO which will save us $5 on orders.

Several bowls of magic spoon cereal which is low carb and keto-friendly

Is Magic Spoon good? And is Magic Spoon worth it?

All in all, this cereal is truly what it claims to be: Magical! 😍✨🌟 If you’re a keto eater and you’ve been missing cold, crunchy breakfast cereal, Magic Spoon will fulfill all your wishes. Even better, their cereal is risk-free and they offer a 100% happiness guarantee so there’s no reason not to try it.

That is… if your wallet isn’t watching. 😆

I really love the taste, but this stuff sticks to my teeth like glue! Does anyone else have this problem? I always eat my cereal dry, so maybe that is the issue?

    • Kari

Absolutely sticks in my teeth like glue! You are not wrong. Some days I donโ€™t eat it if I donโ€™t have a toothpick ๐Ÿ˜‚ it is delicious though, so worth it. My concern as a keto gal is the high oleic sunflower oil. I know high oleic is better than regular oleic, but it is still like
      – what, 9% ish linoleic? Which can increase insulin resistance.

  2. spoiledchildren

Do you use cream for the milk?

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Great question! You can use unsweetened almond milk. One cup contains only 1 gram of net carbs, 2.5 grams of fat, and 1 gram of protein. Enjoy!

  3. Sara

Curious what they use for the food coloring in the cereal. Would like a health and natural dye instead of more chemicals in my diet if Iโ€™m paying that much money for a cereal. Might as well go for all natural food coloring at those prices.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Hi Sara! You can find the cereal ingredients pictured above OR through the link in the post. Hope that helps!

  4. YW

Yโ€™all. I hate writing bad reviews because Iโ€™m not just a troll, and I know how much effort goes into creating these products. However, i have four boxes of cereal that i cannot eat. I tried a few dry bites of the peanut butter. Flavor was fine, though a bit too (fake) sweet. BUT it left a gross, glue-like, sort of metallic tasting residue stuck on my teeth. It was nauseating and i cannot being myself to try again. Nor do i want to risk the other three flavors that i had to buy (because if i remember correctly, ordering four boxes was the minimum). Itโ€™s not worth that disgusting residue again. ๐Ÿ™ i appreciate the effort to make sugar-free options, but this was an expensive fail. Did no one else have this problem?!

    • Diane Gagliano

They offer a no questions asked money-back guarantee.

    • Laura v bois

No fond of peanut butter but fruity and cocoa was delicious. Definitely better with milk instead of dry.

    • Amy R.

I would be willing to take it off if your hands!!

  5. Tim Smith

I was kind of curious about this cereal as a diabetic; thanks for the heads-up about the sweeteners. I have a severe food reaction (not technically an allergy) to stevia.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’re very welcome!

  6. Chris Vaile

I started keto last year and basically flipped a coin on buying this or Cereal School, and the latter won the toss.

It was okay. I got bored of it quickly and moved on to Catalina Crunch because I was given a bag to try, which I quite enjoyed (and still do) but it’s quite dense. It’s not really a 1-for-1 substitute for when you have THAT cereal craving (i.e., sweet, light airy crunch, classically nostalgic cereal taste). I still keep a back of Catalina maple stocked, but there is no going back to sugary cereal treats after Magic Spoon. The texture was an incredibly welcome surprise, it’s pretty much perfect.

It’s not AS sweet as the “Saturday Morning” cereals you grew up with, but I actually prefer a bit less sweetness now anyway. The sweetness in MS hits a perfect midpoint for me. And it stays quite crunchy in your milk. Much like both Cereal School and Catalina, the high price/small size issue is offset to a fair degree by the fact that the high protein does fill you up much better than traditional cereal – i.e., with all of them less goes longer in the satiety department.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks a bunch for your helpful review, Chris! SO glad you enjoyed the Magic Spoon cereal!

  7. Pat

You are kidding! I would not pay $10 a box for fake cereal. Sorry.

  8. Lynn Ellis

I almost bought a variety pack until I converted the USD to Canadian. Way too much for 4 small packs of cereal. Looks good, though.

  9. Bruno Danner

Vegetable oil! No thanks. Avoid all vegetable oils- use only coconut- olive or avocado oil.

  10. Michael Grant

๐Ÿ˜ฃ RIDICULOUSLY OVER-PRICED for a TINY BOX… It’s cheaper to eat Eggs Benedict & Coffee every morning than a TINY bowl of this silly cereal (and eggs Benedict has alot more protein and taste a whole lot better) This is an absurd product, and you are better off going to the health food store and buying wheat germ oil and drinking that instead of orange juice (if you can endure the hideous tastes)

  11. SF

I wish I could find a cereal like this that isn’t sweetened. I’d like to add my own sweetener because I prefer the milk to be sweet, not the cereal…hint hint.

  12. Eva

I have been wanting to try this cereal for a long time. I used the coupon code that you gave without the subscribe and save because I don’t know if I will like it. I am a little worried about it sticking to my teeth and the metallic taste mentioned in the previous comments but I will give it a try. I will probably like it and not buy it again because the regular price is too expensive.

  13. Joan Thompson

I’ve been wanting to try this cereal after reading all the reviews, however, the price always stopped. me. I ordered 6 boxes of cereal as well as a 2-pack box of bars, for my granddaughter. Thanks so much for the discount code and the heads up on the subscribe and save option. This made it so much more affordable!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Yay! You’re SO very welcome, Joan! ๐ŸฅฐSuper glad you could finally grab them! ๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿค— Enjoy!

  14. Collin

Of the four flavors I’ve tired – Peanut Butter, Blueberry, Cinnamon, Fruity – the only one I didn’t care for is the Blueberry. The aftertaste was rough and lingered. It nearly made me give up on the whole thing, since it was the first one I tried – only wanting to another box after finishing one so they wouldn’t go stale. Then I tried the Peanut Butter, which I enjoyed. I decided to mix the Peanut Butter with the Blueberry, and that cut down on the aftertaste and enabled me to finish the Blueberry, so it didn’t go to waste. Bonus, it kinda tasted like PB&J.

The upfront cost is hard to swallow though, and it’s difficult to commit to a subscription to lower the price before you know which ones you’ll like best. I’m still on the fence as far as continuing to order more once what I have is gone.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks so much for taking the time to let us know what you thought of each flavor, Collin! We sure appreciate your helpful review! Awesome to hear you could create your own PB&J flavor with the Blueberry and Peanut Butter flavors! ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ˜‹

  15. christi75c

Love this cereal! So far have had the fruity and the frosted! Maple is up next and I just ordered the cake flavor. It is a little pricey, but thatโ€™s the keto life at times. Worth the money to me, 100%

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

I feel the same! It’s worth it to me, too! ๐Ÿฅฐ

  16. christi75c

Just received my order of birthday cake flavor. Omg so good! My favorite so far!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Woohoo! Glad to hear you’re enjoying it! Thanks for sharing with us! ๐Ÿ’–

  17. Shaun

It is sooooo not worth the cost. The cereal itself is fine. But for $10 they need to give you A LOT more cereal then they do. I got 3 and a half bowls out of mine. I hope they come up with mays to mass produce it to bring down cost.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks, Shaun! Good to know what you’ve thought of it. We sure appreciate the honest feedback. โค๏ธ

What do they mean “natural flavours” when it comes to their ingredients. They don’t divulge that information, why not? Seems fishy — I’ve been told that “natural flavours” was no good.

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Hey there! It seems that there isn’t more information available as to the details of what is included in their recipe for “natural flavors.” If you might be concerned for health or allergy issues, you might contact the company via email at hello@magicspoon.com. Hoping this might be helpful! ๐Ÿ’ž

  19. elewis91

My local target and Kroger now sell magic spoon and put it on sale sometimes. We love it! Especially the fruit one!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

SO awesome that you’ve been able to catch them on sale in store! Thanks for the heads up on your favorite! ๐Ÿค—๐ŸŽ‰

  20. Mr. Sad

Ordered a 6 box set and did not get a bowl and rainbow spoon?!! that was why i ordered this for my daughter..
She is a picky eater so at LEAST i would have a cool spoon and bowl for her.. But, $60 and no bowl and spoon? I have tryed to contact and its next to impossible to get anyone on the phone or email! Sad…

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

So sorry for the troubles. Thanks for letting us know about your order experience. We’ll look into this for you and see if we can get any further details. ๐Ÿ’•

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Hello again! It seems they recommend reaching them by email to resolve any order issues. Here’s the contact we have if different than the one you reached out to. hello@magicspoon.com Hoping they get back to you soon! ๐Ÿค—โค๏ธ
