Make-Ahead Keto Snack Boxes
Hack snack time!
When starting a new diet or transitioning to a new food lifestyle, there are a few key times when your willpower can waver and things can go bad. When you get to the point of hangry, it’s just usually too late to make good choices.
Snacks are key in staying on track, but buying prepackaged snacks can get spendy. On our sister site – Hip2Save.com we’re all about saving money and finding frugal solutions, so, naturally, we wanted to share this keto snack hack that’ll make all the difference in keeping you on track.
Here’s how this simple idea works!
Prep snacks for the entire week in one quick snack making frenzy, and then enjoy them all week long. I prep on Sunday afternoons and make enough to get my husband and me through the workweek. This is obviously not a new concept, but it’s a snack hack that will make your week smoother.
Hip Tip: If you’re a visual learner, we shared this process on a recent Facebook Live video here.
Step 1 – Grab an airtight snack container!
To get started, grab small plastic or glass containers that stack well. I like these Glad Entree containers since they’re shallow and they stack so neatly, but there are lots of other inexpensive choices out there.
I then pull out all the snack possibilities and prep all at once. I slice the cucumbers and celery, open the olives and cheese, make hard-boiled eggs, etc. – basically, whatever I need to fill those boxes is prepped and ready to go.
Step 2 – Fill containers with delicious keto-friendly snacks!
Then just start packing your boxes with a mixture of items customized to your preferences. I use inexpensive paper cupcake liners to divide the items and keep them all contained. The beauty of this is that you can choose items you love and customize for different members of your family. In fact, I have two different brands of containers with different colored lids since he likes meat and hates olives, and I hate meat and love olives.
Check out these other snack container options:
- Fit & Fresh containers with removable ice packs
- Rubbermaid Brilliance stackable lunch/snack containers
- Glass meal prep containers 5-pack
Here are a few great items for these snack boxes…
- Nuts
- Jerky/Pepperoni
- Cucumbers
- Celery
- Cauliflower
- Peppers
- Berries
- Olives
- Pickles
- Hard Boiled Eggs
- Cheese Sticks
- Cheese Sticks wrapped in lunch meat or pepperoni
- Pickles wrapped in cream cheese and lunch meat or salami
- Unsweetened Dang Coconut Chips
- Whisps
- Lily’s Dark Chocolate Chips (We love their chocolate bars, too!)
- Keto Roasted Spiced Almonds
- Avocado Chicken Salad
- Crispy Keto Parmesan Almond Cracker
Hip Tip: Try not to mix crunchy and soggy items. For instance, I’d package Whisps and Dang Coconut chips separately in a plastic baggy so they’re less likely to become soggy.
In addition to these snack boxes, you can also make yummy trail mixes with some of the suggested items above. I personally have thrown Dang Coconut Chips, nuts and Lily’s Dark Chocolate Chips in a bag – so satisfying when I’m craving something sweet!
By prepping all at once like this, you can also take advantage of larger packages of snacks (cheeses, pepperoni sticks, nuts, etc.) which have a better price per serving. Check out our list of keto warehouse buys for more ideas.
Happy snacking!
