Keto Success Story: How Shannon Is Crushing Keto and Helping Others in the Process!

We are so excited to share with you the keto success story of Hip2Keto follower, Shannon. She has lost over 40 pounds on the keto diet and is now reaching personal fitness goals that she never thought possible.
For Shannon, there’s no looking back, and now she’s even using her experience to help others who are just starting out on their keto journeys!
Here’s her keto success story…
How did you first discover keto?
I’ve been eating keto for about five and a half years now. The main reason I started was for weight loss. I found myself carrying extra weight on my 5 foot-nothin’ frame, and I was always tired and cranky.
Keto was life-changing for me and it enabled me to see that in order to be the best version of myself, I needed to stop the vicious cycle of eating carbs, sugar, and caffeine. I needed to rethink the way I was fueling my body, and realize that eating for “comfort” was NOT comfortable. In fact, it was miserable.
I quickly dropped 27 lbs and lost all cravings for sugar. I felt unstoppable! The people around me started commenting how “amazing” I looked and asking the question, “What are you doing?” I was excited to share the answer with anyone and everyone! The answer was and IS keto. Now I’m down over 40 pounds and more physically fit than ever!
What have been your biggest successes and struggles along the way?
My weight loss of over 40 lbs. has been a big success, but I’m also really proud of my current level of fitness. It’s better than I ever could’ve imagined! My struggles have included hitting many plateaus, but when that happens, I just try new tweaks to assist my body in losing weight.
After experiencing some success with the keto diet, I found myself sharing my experience with family and friends. It became very common for me to get a text asking, “How do I make this keto?” I began coaching others as The Keto Genie, helping friends and family through the beginning stages of keto, through their plateaus, and ultimately helping them to reach their goal weight. I even coached one of my dearest friends and helped her to lose 150 pounds!
I also coached my 73-year-old dad through an 80+ pound weight loss after more than 20 years of being diabetic. His A1C went from 9.8 before keto down to 6.2. He has totally embraced keto and restored his health to the point that his doctor took him off insulin! There is nothing that brings me more joy than sharing the triumphs of those people whose lives have been completely transformed by eating keto.
What helps you to stay on track?
The craziest thing about keto is that you’ll come for the weight loss but you’ll STAY for the unbelievable NSV’s (or non-scale victories). Even during a weight-loss plateau, I still enjoy all the benefits of improved energy, better moods, and a lifting of brain fog that I didn’t even know I had until it was no longer there.
The list goes on and on… clear skin like never before, increased stamina and libido, better sleep, and a calmness and clarity unlike anything you’ve ever experienced.
What are your favorite keto recipes or keto-friendly products?
One of my favorite keto-friendly products is bone broth, and my favorite keto recipes are actually my own! One thing I love about eating this way is that I can basically make any recipe keto, so I have zero cravings.
Since beginning this journey, I’ve been able to discover my own personal “power meals.” Those are the ones that leave you feeling completely satiated, which is the opposite of that depressing “on-a-diet” feeling. I even released my own cookbook last year!
Any advice for those starting out on keto or having a hard time sticking to it?
Start with baby steps! First, remove all starchy carbohydrates and sugary items from your diet. Focus on eating real food and learn to read labels so that you know exactly what you’ve been putting into your body. Work on building delicious keto meals so you’ll actually want to eat on-plan!
