Keto Wendy's Copycat Frosty Dessert in a cup

Hip tips to make the best Wendy’s-inspired keto Frosty:

  • I added just a tablespoon of almond butter (you can also use peanut butter or even cream cheese for fewer carbs).
  • If you’d prefer, this can be made in a stand mixer such as a KitchenAid. It’ll take a couple of minutes for stiff peaks to form.
  • For a vanilla variation: Use 1 cup heavy whipping cream, 1 heaping tablespoon cream cheese, 2 teaspoons vanilla extract, 1 teaspoon liquid stevia, and ½ teaspoon Swerve confectioners.
  • For a Peanut Butter Chocolate variation: Use 1 cup heavy whipping cream, 1 tablespoon almond butter, 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder, 1 tablespoon sugar-free peanut butter powder, 1/2 teaspoon liquid Stevia, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and 1/2 teaspoon Swerve confectioners.

This looks fancy, but this Wendy’s keto frosty was super easy to create!

To get the fancy soft-serve look, scoop the chocolate frosty in a plastic freezer bag, cut the end from the corner, and pipe it into small cups.

It’s a very rich dessert, so the serving size is small. I love that it’s a creamy and smooth dessert idea. It’s perfect if you’re in the mood for a Frosty-like treat!

Hubby hates stevia… do you think swerve would sub ok?

    • Lina D

Yes I think you could definitely use your favorite sweetener of choice as desired. Enjoy! ?

    • Heidi

I used Torani sugar free Vanilla flavoring syrup instead of stevia delicious

      • Angie

        Great idea!! Thx

      • Deborah

Sugar free torani syrup has Sucrose, it’s still a sugar, not a keto item, but I agree not much out there for people who get a bitter after taest from stevia and the others.

        • Cindy

I believe sugar free Torani has sucralose, which is carb free

        • Alyssa

Allulose is a great sugar substitute! No aftertaste. Your system doesn’t absorb it.

        • Sylvie

          I use Munkfruit .
          Looks and tastes like sugar

    • swerve

      I use SWERVE

  2. Julie Davis

    Thanks!

  3. Rebecca Shebester

Looks yummy. Conventional dairy does not work for my family though. It makes keto much more difficult!

    • Blutterfy

Just use coconut cream – it works great 🙂

  4. Mel

yum! Can’t wait to try this!!

  5. Heather

Can you use peanut butter instead of almond butter?

    • Lina D

Yes, however consider a natural low sugar brand. ?

  6. Mary Jo Thompson

Can you use sugar free chocolate jello pudding in it?

    • Lina D

That’s not an ingredient we would recommend. Thanks!

  7. Cheri

Can you store the extra servings in the fridge, or do they need to be frozen?,

    • Lina D

      Yes, both would work.

  8. Inez Herrero

This looks delicious! However, my husband and daughter have very bad nut allergies so I can’t use almond butter. Would sunflower butter be a good substitute? Any suggestions? Thanks!

    • Lina D

      Yes that sounds great!

    • Crystal

I did read you can sub for cream cheese make sure it’s rook temperature to mix better

  9. Inez Herrero

    Thank you Lina D!

  10. Kristen

I want to make this for my g’son…..artificial sweetners don’t work for us….help!! TIA

    • Lina D

Use the desired sweetener that fits for your lifestyle. Can you do erythritol? Xylitol? Stevia? Those are natural sweeteners. Monk fruit’s another option, too! — Hope that helps! 🙂

  11. Darla

No way. OMG I love frostys and make as them so much.

  12. Nonna

    thank you

  13. Jennifer

    Can you use truvia granuals?

    • Amber (Hip2Keto Sidekick)

Yes you can! You will just want to adjust the amount accordingly.

  14. Michele

Tastes too much like the peanut butter to be a frosty

  15. Bri

Yum! I can’t wait to try this!!

    • Lina D

      Thanks Bri!

  16. Saif

    Hi
I use truvia what is the equivalent amount to use ?
    Thanks

  17. Abiola T

Can I not use the almond butter and just use everything else?

    • Lina D

      Sure!

  18. Cheryl

Omg so good! It’s so hot here in southern Ontario I felt like I was melting and a frosty is one of my all time favorites! This hit the spot, I didn’t have any liquid stevia so I used some super free s’mores skinny syrup ! Thanks so much for your recipe !

    • Lina D

      You’re welcome! Yum!

  19. Pam

Could I use half cup of almond milk and half cup of heavy cream to cut down on the fat content?

  20. Pam

Could I use a half cup of almond milk and a half cup of heavy whipping cream instead of the cup of heavy cream?

    • Lina D

You know, you could definitely try that. Please let me know how it works!” 🙂

      • Jenni

I did this. Still yummy but didn’t quite get to stiff peaks.

  21. Angie

I am working on losing weight. Is there a low cal substitute for the heavy cream?

    • Amber (Hip2Keto Sidekick)

Because fats are self-limiting and fill people up faster (and keeps them full longer), keto is a higher-fat diet. If you’re counting calories, you can try going with 50/50 cream and coconut milk or almond milk, but I’m not sure how creamy the result will be. If you try it, would you mind letting us know? We love reading how friends tweak our recipes!

  22. Cynthia McElhatten

I am thinking of just freezing it in the ziplock bag instead of transferring it after it’s frozen. I also wonder if coconut butter would work like peanut butter?

    • Amber (Hip2Keto Sidekick)

You should be able to freeze it. I wouldn’t sub in coconut butter for peanut butter. I think it could change the consistency/outcome. That said, if you give it a shot, we’d love to hear how it turns out!

  23. Michelle

Does not taste like wendys frosty at all the almond butter throws off the taste

    • Amber (Hip2Keto Sidekick)

Oh bummer! SO sorry you did not care for it. Thanks a bunch for the honest comment!

    • ann

Use a low sugar peanut butter…tastes much better!

  24. Teresa

    Would regular butter work?

    • Amber (Hip2Keto Sidekick)

Not sure how that might turn out. If you decide to try it, let us know what you think!

  25. ann

1st time I made this I whipped it too long. I just made it again using a low sugar peanut butter and it turned out great! Delicious…I had to hold back from not eating all 4 servings!

  26. Lisa V

Have you tried using an ice cream maker after mixing? I can’t wait to try this!

    • Amber (Hip2Keto Sidekick)

We haven’t tried that, but it may work!! If you decide to give it a go, let us know how it turns out!

  27. Melinda

Can I make this without a mixer?

    • Lina D

Maybe with a hand beater if you have one.

  28. Elliott

How can you make it for diabetes

    • Amber (Hip2Keto Sidekick)

This is sugar free, but you might want to test your blood sugar to ensure your favorite sugar-free sweetener won’t tamper with your readings. We want to keep you healthy! If you have concerns about the effects of sweeteners on your blood sugar, I’d ask your doctor to be safe.

  29. Beth

I’m making it now and I’ve been beating forever and still not stiff. Are you supposed to whip the cream first and then add the other ingredients?

    • Lina D

I just mixed everything together at once. So sorry you’re having a hard time. Yes maybe next time whip the cream first.

  30. Katrina

How much monk fruit would equal to 5 drop stevia?

  31. Cara

How do you sub cream cheese?

    • Amber (Hip2Keto Sidekick)

I there! I would not try it with cream cheese as it would thicken the recipe too much and give it a tangier flavor. UPDATE: You can however, use the same amount of cream cheese as we have listed for the almond butter. Hope that helps!

      • Amanda

But it was suggested in the recipe…

        • Amber (Hip2Keto Sidekick)

Thanks, Amanda! You can use the same amount of cream cheese as we have listed for the almond butter. Hope this helps!

  32. Jenn

I tried this recipe but when it came out of the freezer, it was hard as a rock. Definitely can’t put it in a ziplock bag. What have I done wrong???

    • Amber (Hip2Keto Sidekick)

Hi there! Be sure to let it set out for a few minutes, so that it can thaw a bit. It should soften up for you that way. 🙂

  33. Iva

I made this. It never fluffed, and I did not like the taste at all.

    • Amber (Hip2Keto Sidekick)

Oh bummer! SO sorry to hear you did not care for it! 🙁

  34. Wendy

OMG! O!M!G! This is an amazing treat! What a perfect dessert on a warm summer night! DELICIOUS!

  35. Lisa Ramirez

Picture shows peanut butter, recipe says almond butter…guessing either will do?

    • Lina D

      Yes either ?

      • Angie

can this be made in an ice cream maker?

        • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

I think that’s a great idea! Let us know how you like it! 🙂

  36. Jaime Clubb

Is the almond or peanut butter necessary? Does it add too the consistency or is it for flavor?

    • Amber (Hip2Keto Sidekick)

Hi there! The peanut butter adds that umami to deepen the flavor, along with just the slightest hint of salt. Removing it might really affect the flavor. Hope that helps!

  37. Carol

How much cream cheese for the substitute Will I red to add salt if I use the cream cheese?

    • Amber (Hip2Keto Sidekick)

Hi Carol! You can just use the same amount of cream cheese as is listed for the almond butter. Hope that helps!

  38. Mark Nicholls

This looks awesome…. will try this weekend….

    • Amber (Hip2Keto Sidekick)

      Yay! Hope you enjoy it!

  39. Diana

    What is the serving size?

    • Amber (Hip2Keto Sidekick)

Hi there! This recipe makes 4 servings. Hope that helps!

  40. Sheila

This recipe is so delicious! I used homemade peanut butter and sweetened it with xylitol because that’s what I had on hand. The taste reminds me of a fudgesicle, which is a favorite treat from my childhood.

    • Lina D

      Perfect! Thanks for sharing ?

  41. debby

I was so excited to try since I have been craving ice cream but something went way wrong with mine. I did the cream cheese for less carb and I ended up with no peaks and lots of little dots of cream cheese in chocolate water. Did I over beat? I never got stiff peaks. 🙁

    • Lina D

Oh darn! That’s a bummer 🙁 So sorry that happened. maybe whip cream first then fold in softened cream cheese, next time.

    • Steph

I would guess it was over beaten. Sounds like the cream turned into butter.

    • Kristin

That will happen if your cream cheese is cold. Let it come to room temp and it should be good.

  42. Karen

Can I use powder stevia instead of liquid, and if so, how much?

      • Andrea

so am I correct that I would use 5T of confection swerve?

        • Amber (Hip2Keto Sidekick)

Hmm, It looks like 5 drops would equal to 1/3 of a teaspoon of the powdered. Maybe start with that and see how it tastes. Hoping that helps!

  43. Janet Bland

Re the clumps in chocolate water comment: that is from whipping too long. Basically you ended up with butter clumps, cream cheese bits and whey. I learned over-whipping turning to butter when making tiramisu one time 🙂

  44. Mary

Just whip he cream cheese first – add everything, the. Fold in cream after it is whipped

  45. Helen B

I followed this recipe exactly, but something did not work. The unsweetened cocoa powder is so bitter, that’s all I can taste. It did not look anything like the pics — it’s very dark, and I used everything as listed in the recipe. Not sure what I did wrong. Maybe I should have used a different type of cocoa. Too bad. I was really looking forward to this as a treat.

  46. Kara

Awe too bad … mine turned out curdled as well … consider posting new directions … more specific. It looked like it was heading in the right direction… I couldn’t get to peaks and kept mixing . It then curdled

  47. Tammy

I just made this recipe and it turned out great. I couldn’t quit eating it before I got it into the freezer. Turned out just like a Wendy’s Frosty. Thank you for the recipe.

    • Lina D

      Thanks for sharing Tammy!

  48. LaurieAnn Wagner

Would this work using a blender?

    • Tallykat

You cannot whip cream in a blender. It doesn’t get enough air. You need to use a mixer with whisk beaters if possible.

      • Joanna

I used an immersion blender vs mixer and cream cheese vs peanut butter. Blended for about a min. Used Monk fruit sweetener and a pinch of sea salt. Tasted great! Thank you for the recipe

  49. christina

I loved it!! Instead of stevia i used 1.5 tbsp of monk fruit. but i was looking at the ingredients in the almond butter and it had honey in it! Which almond butter brand did you use? honey isnt keto

    • Lina D

That’s so great! Use a type of almond butter that’s plain, without honey – thanks!

  50. Kim

Do you have to use sweetner? I can’t do artificial sweeteners..
