Keto Donuts

yield: 12 SERVINGS

prep time: 10 MINUTES

cook time: 15 MINUTES

total time: 25 MINUTES

Ingredients

Donut batter:

Cinnamon Sugar Donut Topping:

Icing:

Directions

1

To make the donuts:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

2

In a large bowl, add almond flour, coconut flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix dry ingredients until they're all combined.

3

In a separate large bowl, add eggs, monk fruit sweetener, apple cider vinegar, almond milk, and extract. Mix with an electric mixer for 1 minute. Add in dry ingredients and mix until all ingredients are combined.

4

Add donut batter to a Ziploc bag. Cut about 1/2" off the corner to use as a piping bag. Pipe the donut batter into the donut molds 3/4 the way to the top. Place filled molds on a flat baking sheet for better stability when inserting and removing molds from the oven.

5

Bake in preheated oven for 13-15 minutes, until lightly browned and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool completely before applying the icing.

6

To make icing:

Slowly add ingredients to a bowl and whisk until you get a thick creamy texture. Let the icing set for a few minutes to thicken before adding to donuts. Dip donut tops into the icing and set on a rack to let the icing dry. Top with sugar-free sprinkles (if desired) before the icing sets.

7

To make sugared donuts:

Dip donuts into melted butter & sprinkle granular monk fruit sweetener and cinnamon over the donuts.

8

Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

Here are a few recipe tips to keep in mind when making keto donuts:

  • After searching for the best donut molds, I came across these silicone molds and purchased them after reading all the amazing reviews on Amazon. The donuts popped right out without having to grease the sides!
  • If you are craving chocolate, you can add 2 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa to your dry ingredients to make a delicious chocolate cake keto donut.
  • I’m a big fan of using Lakanto Powdered Monk Fruit Sweetener. I used it for the frosting and feel like it doesn’t have a strong cooling aftertaste like some other keto sweeteners. You can grab it directly from Lakanto and save 15% off your order when you use promo code HIP2KETO at checkout! Note that any kind of powdered keto sweetener will work.
  • If you can’t find butter vanilla extract, you can use 1 teaspoon of vanilla and 1 teaspoon of butter extract, or just use 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Yay! SO glad to hear that! Thanks for letting us know how yummy they turned out for you! 🙌🍩

  2. Bev

What if you don’t have a donut pan? Could you use a muffin tin?

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

While we haven’t tried that, I bet you can. You may have to cook a minute or two longer. Let us know if you do!

      • Paul R.

I’ve used a muffin top pan with success. There’s no donut hole but it tastes just as good and is a unique confection item!

        • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Awesome! Thanks a bunch for commenting on how using a muffin pan worked for you, Paul. Glad it worked well! 🤗💕

    • Melissa

I don’t have a donut pan, so I made 12 cupcakes and baked them about 5 minutes longer. It worked perfectly and they taste great. My husband said they are the best Keto dessert he’s tried!

  3. Nancy

Could I use a little butter and vanilla extract to replace the “butter vanilla extract”?

  4. Darlene

    Can these donuts be frozen?

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

Yes and they taste good frozen, too!

      • randy thurman

after making these donuts that you said you could not tell the difference makes me wonder if you have ever eaten a real donut.they were not good..

  5. bella3189

Thank you so much for this recipe! It was delicious with my cup of coffee this morning! 😊

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

You’re SO very welcome! Thanks for letting us know how much you have enjoyed them! 🍩🙌💖

  6. Michelle

So good, but a few questions: can this be made in a Bundt pan as a full cake? It’s definitely one of the moistest keto desserts I’ve ever had and I think it would make a great cake! Also, I was only able to get 10-11 per batch and mine were not nearly that high…and (lol) my chocolate frosting turned more into chocolate whipped cream. Is there a way to keep it more of a glaze consistency? Maybe use water instead of heavy cream?

    • Emily (Hip Sidekick)

Hi Michelle! We’ve never tried making it as a bundt cake, but I think you could definitely try it! I’d make sure to grease the pan and I’m guessing baking time would be closer to 20 to 25 minutes or more. Start checking around 15 minutes and check every 5 minutes after that until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean. If your donuts didn’t rise that much, your baking powder could be old or you could try adding an additional 1/2 tsp of baking powder. Your donut molds could be bigger than the ones we used or maybe you overfilled them if you’re only getting 10-11 per batch. As far as the frosting goes, adding more liquid will make it more of a glaze. You could do more heavy cream to thin it out or add some water or unsweetened almond milk. Let us know if you make the bundt cake and how it turns out!

  7. Marcy Pineda

Can I microwave this donut recipe?
I had just purchased those silicone pans arriving Wednesday..
    Please let me know..

    • Angie (Hip2Keto Sidekick)

Hi Marcy! I would not recomend microwaving them as they will not have the same consistency as they would in the oven. I am not sure which silicone molds you purchased, but most are oven safe. Hope this helps❤

  8. Patricia Morgan

Can I do this recipe in a mini donut pan? How long do you think I should cook them for?

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

Yes, you can. I’m not sure how big they are, but I’d start by checking them 8 – 9 minutes in the oven.

  9. Jenny

Does the glaze set to the touch? Thanks.

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

Yes! It’s very similar to the way chocolate sets on a reg doughnut!

  10. Vonda Little

Can I use my doughnut maker to make the doughnuts

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

I’ve made these and I think that would work. Just pipe in the dough!

  11. Carmen

Do you have to use coconut flour? I am allergic to “real” coconut .
What does mixing two flours mean for this recipe! Thx! Carmen

    • Carmen

      carmenziggy@me…

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Hi Carmen! We haven’t tried it but you could sub out the coconut flour for additional almond flour. You’ll need to use 3 X as much almond flour as coconut flour, so 6 tablespoons. Adding a dash of extra baking powder should also help them rise. And then decrease the egg from 4 to 3. Hoping this helps! Let us know how they turn out if you decide to try it!

  12. Sarah N

Could i add protein powder? Hmm. How do you recommend storing them?

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

While we haven’t personally made them using protein powder, you can replace 1/3 cup of protein powder for each cup of almond flour. Let us know how it turns out! I store mine in an airtight container in the fridge for a few days.

  13. Paul

These came out fine! They hold together well and freeze well also. I did not like the Ziploc bag option so used a disposable piping bag with a wide round tip. Great recipe!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Yay! Happy to hear how nice they turned out for you, Paul!

  14. Kyle Shinbaum

They came out good. I took them out at 13 minutes, used a tester on them, and cooked them 5 more minutes. Where we liked them, Krispy Kreme should not feel threatened. Lol.

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

Good to hear your feedback! Thank you!

  15. chaila

Can you add cocoa powder to this recipe?

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Yes! ❤️ You can add 2 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa to your dry ingredients. Enjoy! 😋🙌

  16. Ana Gabriela Mejía Terán

Can i use an air fryier with these donuts?

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Hey Ana! If you have a donut mold that would fit in your air fryer, you should be able to cook them at 375 degrees for 6 minutes. It likely would not work without a donut mold as the dough is really soft. Hope this is helpful! 💞
