wonder bread chaffle in dash maker

Tips for making the best Wonder bread chaffle:

  • These are great for keto sandwiches, but you could also add some sugar-free syrup and make them as keto waffles!
  • No Dash maker? No problem! You can use a regular waffle maker, but the size of the chaffles will be bigger. Some of our readers even made these up like pancakes in a skillet!
  • This bread is freezable.❄️ Simply wrap the pieces in plastic wrap, put them in a Ziploc freezer bag, and store them in the freezer.

Not a fan of coconut flour? Check out this tip.

bag of coconut flour

The coconut flour doesn’t have an overwhelming coconut taste. However, if you don’t like it, there are several options for substituting coconut flour. We testing out some different variations for you. Note that substituting the coconut flour will change the nutrition information.

Instead of 2 tablespoons of coconut flour, use:

4 pieces of keto wonder bread chaffle

Everyone’s going to love these chaffles!

This bread was such a win for my family that even my oldest son asked for a keto bread sandwich for school lunch! Club sandwiches, grilled cheese, and sooo many more ways to enjoy a Wonder bread chaffle. 🤤

Here’s what my Hip sidekick Emily had to say about these Wonder bread chaffles:

“These turned out amazing! I was a little skeptical about making a chaffle without cheese but they taste just like bread! I didn’t notice any coconut flavor at all. They made a great sandwich! I also tried making them with almond flour, protein powder, and pork rind crumbs. All variations were tasty! We ate the almond flour ones like breakfast waffles.”

These have an excellent texture, and would be wonderful for those who don’t mind a smattering of coconut taste. I don’t like coconut at all, so tomorrow I will try with a workable ratio of almond flour instead. The taste wasn’t strong, but I couldn’t get past that part. I’ll save the leftovers made with coconut flour for my husband. They might even work well as actual waffles with zero carb maple flavored syrup. Great recipe if you don’t mind coconut taste!

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

I’m so glad you tried this, Allie! If you find another ratio, leave a comment as I’m sure it’s super helpful to readers that don’t like coconut.

    • joyce laslo

Just made this recipe using Carbquick instead of coconut flour. PERFECT You could also try using protein powder, I use the 0 carb one and they were great too.

      • Vivian Hruska

        Where to buy carbquick

        • ellenkozlowski

          I get mine at Netrition.com

        • Sandra Branson

I’ve got it at Walmart before

        • Ketomamaof5

you can buy it on Amazon too

        • Marlene

          Amazon

      • Teegeelee

Thank you SOO much Joyce! I dislike coconut. Don’t like even the hint of taste. I also have Carbquick and rarely remember it’s there. I am going to give this a try. Just as soon as I get one of those little mini waffle irons in. 🙂

        • Traci

I would like to know, too. How much carbquik? I’m dearly allergic to coconut

          • Emily (Hip Sidekick)

Hello, 4 tablespoons of Carbquik should work!

      • Elissa Steidley

How much carbquik did you use?

        • Emily (Hip Sidekick)

Hello, 4 tablespoons of Carbquik should work!

    • emco

did you try them with the almond flour?

    • Adelita

What would be the ratio if I use almond flour?

      • Tabitha Parenti

1:4 coconut to almond. So, if you use a 1/4 cup coconut, use a full cup of almond. You might need to omit an egg, too. Give it a shot

    • becky

I can’t get past the coconut part either so i use Quest Protein Powder for mine

      • Debbie

        What kind and how much?!😊

    • Lenore

I watch a video on YouTube and a guy from SeriousKeto was trying different “Chaffle Recipes”. He made this one called the Best White Bread Chaffle, he said it really was the best he had found. I made it and our family loves it.

      It is as follows:
      2 Egg Whites
      2 tsp. Water
      2 Tblsps. Cream Cheese softened
      4 Tblsps. Almond Flour
      1/4 tsp. Baking powder
      1 pinch of salt

Mix wet ingredients in a bowl and set aside. Then in a small bowl mix dry ingredients and add to wet. Mix until well combines. It is a runny batter almost like a thin pancake batter. It took about 4-5 Minutes in the mini waffle maker. I put mine on a cooling rack so they don’t sweat and get soggy. These turned out wonderful and they really held up on burgers and sandwiches. I had a little batter left so I made some really small and thin ones I used those to wrap around my air fried hot dogs it was awesome.

        Do you know the macros

Can I substitute heavy cream for the cream cheese

        • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

It seems that may work too. Let us know how yours turns out if you give it a try!

    • Sandy

I’ve tried this with both coconut flour – agree, couldn’t get past the taste – and with a couple different amounts of almond flour – didn’t like taste or texture. Unfortunately, this recipe doesn’t work for me. I’d rather do without “bread”.

      • Angie (Hip2Keto Sidekick)

Hi Sandy. Bummer.💔 However since you can do without than that’s awesome, not everyone has that will power❤

  2. Cheryl

A large waffle maker be used if you double the ingredients

  3. Becky

If you don’t mind pumpkin shaped bread or waffles, Amazon has it for $9.99!

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

      Thanks, Becky!

  4. Marsha Stapleton

Could this be baked in a breadmaker?

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

I would say no since this cooks fast. You use a regular waffle maker, but it would be bigger.

  5. Cindy

Toasted them and made a McDonald’s McMuffin. Yum!

    • Cassandra (Hip Sidekick)

      Yum!

  6. Angela

Why is your bread not… Waffled but more Panini looking?

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

They sell little dash sets like this one with the panini maker, too!

      • Norma

Holy Moley, those are so stinkin’ cute! They have a waffle bowl maker too, so you can make keto chaffle ice cream bowls or taco bowls!

      • Lynn

        It’s a Dash Mini Grill!

  7. Beth

I added 2 tablespoons mayonnaise and had no coconut taste. These are awesome!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Awesome! SO happy you enjoyed them, Beth! Thanks for letting us know how you made yours!

    • Shae

Did you substitute mayo for something or add it in extra?

  8. Dove Bram

Great recipe! Love your waffle maker. Perfect for making “sandwich bread”.. What brand is it? ty 🙂

  9. Paula

I don’t like coconut taste so I have been using this recipe and it works well for me
    1 egg
    3 Tbsp Almond flour
    1. Tbsp Mayo
    1/4 tsp baking powder
    1 tsp water
    Mix all together

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks so much for sharing your recipe with us, Paula! Good to know what you have liked best!

  10. Linda

    Are these freezable?

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Yes! We suggest wrapping in plastic wrap and then placing in an air tight Ziploc bag. Hope that helps!

  11. Becky Corey

The picture above is the grill correct? Not the waffle maker.

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

You can use a small waffle maker or a small panini maker like we did in the picture.

  12. Leilani

What’s considered a serving size? is it one of those or two of those waffles. Can’t wait to try them! For me I love coconut! Mahalo for the recipe!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

You’re welcome, Leilani! One slice is a serving size. Enjoy!

  13. Janice K

Thank you for this recipe. I don’t have a waffle maker, so I made little pancakes in the iron skillet.
I could not taste coconut, and the texture was more like a pancake, but that’s OK, better than lettuce leafs.

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

Glad to know you have a different choice other than the lettuce, Janice K!

  14. Dara

    Are these egg tasting?

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

Hi Dara! I’m very sensitive to the taste of eggs and these do taste a bit egg-like to me. A lot of people say it does not to them so it depends on how sensitive to the eggy taste. They do have a bit of coconut taste.

  15. Kyla L Siler

I was wondering, what if I didn’t want to make the entire recipe? I’m wondering if I Do make the entire recipe, can I store the rest in a mason jar and put it in the fridge?

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

I wouldn’t store it in the fridge. I would make them all and then you can freeze your chaffles. If you put wax paper or parchment between them, they won’t stick to each other. That way you get them out when you ready to eat them.

      • R)CKKYDAWG

Thanks, Jennifer. I’ll pill the batter out and make them up.

        • R)CKKYDAWG

Or maybe I’ll pull them out. LOL

  16. Tiffany Herrera

I just made these and am very impressed! I didnt taste the coconut flour but I dont have an aversion to the taste. I will make these sweet next time for waffles. Thanks!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

You’re so welcome, Tiffany! Glad you enjoyed them!

  17. cassandra cooper

I enjoyed them but agree on the coconut taste. So I removed the top and then I didn’t notice the coconut taste anymore. It was like 2 pieces was to over powering! I will continue to make them because I wanted some without cheese and I have ate with one piece of bread for awhile anyway! Thank you Hip2Keto❤️

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Oh good! You’re very welcome, Cassandra! Glad the one piece tasted better for you. Thanks for taking the time to share with us!

  18. Christina

Total game changer. Sometimes you just need “bread” I saw this recipe and order the Dash mini waffle maker. I just made these. It was less than 15 min from unbixing the machine, cleaning it, making the batter and the waffles. I got 6 minis out of the recipe with the heart shaped model.
Totally easy, common and inexpensive ingredients and delish!
    Thanks!

    • Angie (Hip2Keto Sidekick)

Hi Christina! Thank you for the awesome feedback. We wanted a simple recipe with common ingredients so that most people would already have the ingredients. I’m so happy to hear that it worked out for you!❤

  19. Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

It will work, but the texture won’t be as light a fluffy.

  20. Crystal

Has anyone experimented with using pork rind Panko in place of the flour for carnivore? I’m thinking of doing it – and if you did, how much of it do you think would replace the coconut flour?

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

Coconut flour is very absorbent. While I have not personally made the substitute you are talking about, I do think it would work. Due to the nature of coconut flour, I would make these changes: 4 Tablespoons Pork Rind Panko instead of coconut flour and reduce eggs to only 2 total (instead of 3).

  21. R)CKKYDAWG

These are the best Keto bread EVER! I only made 2 so tomorrow I’m going to add a little Oat Fiber to what’s left. I think it will make them fluffier plus I really need more fiber.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Awesome! Glad you are loving them!

  22. Valerie

Hello, I love this recipe, but I am wondering if anyone has tried to make it in a large skillet to make a thin wrap? I enjoy wraps more because I can pack them full of veg. I might just have to try it and see what happens

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Let us know how it turns out if you decide to try it!

  23. Nancy

These were a bit eggy for me so I added another tablespoon of coconut flour and like it much better. I don’t taste the coconut. I’ll be trying the other recipes that people have shared. Thanks!

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

You are welcome! Sounds like you made a good modification, Nancy! Thanks for stopping by!

  24. Lottie

I’ve had trouble finding whipping cream lateky.Do you think half and half or unsweetened vanilla almond milk would work?

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

Half and Half has sugar in it and almond milk is a bit thin. You could sub with coconut cream though. YUM!
