using keto baking mix for sausage balls

Sausage balls are an easy idea to bake keto style!

This popular old-fashioned recipe traditionally uses Bisquick, cheese, and sausage, but you can keep them keto by opting for a keto-friendly baking mix. Keto sausage balls would be a perfect game day or holiday recipe for entertaining friends or family this season. They are dangerously good and will disappear fast!

Dare I say that I love this keto version even more than the full carb?

Yes! I think it’s because with less breading, I am tasting the sausage and cheese more. I loved using the spicy version of breakfast sausage as it added so much flavor. You could always use mild if preferred, but dang these are so tasty! Plus these are gluten-free sausage balls. No one would ever guess they are also keto-friendly too!

Extra tips for making keto sausage balls:

  • This was so quick and easy to make using a stand mixer. I highly recommend it if you have one. Maybe a potato masher or wooden spoon would work instead.
  • Use a small cookie scoop or tablespoon to roll consistent sized sausage balls
  • Consider lining your sheet pan with parchment paper for easy cleanup afterward! I do love using my Caraway bakeware as it’s nonstick.
  • To store cooked sausage balls in the refrigerator, place them in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3–4 days.
  • To store cooked sausage balls in the freezer, place them in an airtight container and freeze them for up to 3 months.

I love that you can make darn good sausage balls without Bisquick!

The keto version will surprise you at how awesome they taste. What a satisfying and rich-tasting appetizer yummy breakfast on the go. Keto sausage balls are both simple to make and taste amazing.

Want some dipping sauce for the sausage balls? I thought they were delicious as is, but you can always opt for some ranch dressing or low-carb BBQ sauce if desired!
