Today, we’re featuring Laurel, a Hip2Keto reader who recently embarked on her keto journey along with her husband. After learning about our recommendation of the book Eat Bacon, Don’t Jog as one of our favorite keto resources, she decided to read the book out loud while she and her husband traveled to an out of state wedding. Their biggest takeaway from the book was that if your diet is heavy in carbs, you’ll end up as a sugar burner and not see much weight loss. On the other hand, if your eating habits include plenty of natural fats, you’ll become a fat burner and lose weight more easily.
Both of them initially questioned the counterintuitiveness of eating more fat to lose fat, though that statement has resonated with them and changed their views on the way they look at food. They also became more mindful of the effects carbs have on their bodies.
Well, the proof is in the sugar-free pudding, because keto is working for them! Since starting in July of 2018, Laurel has already lost 12 pounds, and her husband has dropped 20! It doesn’t come without work though. Laurel admits that her biggest struggle is the sugar cravings. In the beginning, she had a tough time cutting out sugar and processed carbs, especially since those foods were a big part of their previous eating habits.
Laurel also started feeling the symptoms of the keto flu, but luckily those unpleasant effects subsided. Her tip for her keto success is to be mindful of what foods are being consumed and the effects they have on the body, which stems from her takeaways in Eat Bacon, Don’t Jog.
Today, Laurel and her husband are happy to report that they both have more energy, along with being able to lift more weights at the gym and have a better sense of clear-headedness. No more mid-day slump! Even better, Laurel’s skin has improved, which is a wonderful benefit outside of all the other health boosts that come with eating keto.
