Ingredients used to make a Keto Strawberry Banana Smoothie

Keep these tips in mind when making our keto strawberry banana smoothie:

  • We used fresh strawberries, cut the tops off, and placed them in the freezer for a few hours before blending. If berries are not in season or if omitting this step is preferred, you can use frozen berries to help thicken the base of the smoothie without the use of ice.
  • You can add more of your favorite low carb ingredients to bulk up your smoothies, such as spinach, kale, mixed berries, or keto protein powder.

My team member, Jenna, gave this low carb strawberry banana smoothie recipe a test for me (as pictured above) and here’s what she had to say:

“I love the simplicity of this recipe and being able to just throw everything in the blender and serve when done. I like to add a scoop of protein powder to bulk it up and it helps me stay full most of the day, you can’t even taste it.

I loved using frozen strawberries so the smoothie was full of flavor and didn’t get watered down even as it was melting. When I added the whipped heavy cream to the top, it felt like I was getting a cheat treat, but nope, it was still low carb!”Jenna

Can you use frozen blueberries? How would that change the carb count ?

    • Ashley (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Hey, Julie you absolutely can use blueberries. I recommend using a 1/2 cup which will bring your carb count to 7g and Net Carbs to 5g per serving. Let me know how the blueberries taste- that sounds delicious.

  2. Sandy

Can you use collagen powder instead of protein powder?

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

You could try that, however we haven’t done it personally. It would change the texture a little. Let us know how it tastes!

I am having a hard time understanding the net carbs. All the frozen strawberries that I have seen are 10 net carbs for 7 strawberries…..thus making the net carbs way more than 2 net carbs per serving (4 net carbs for the whole recipe) what am I missing? Thanks in Advance!

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

To get net carbs, you subtract any fiber and sugar alcohols. Six large strawberries is 8.3 carbs minus the 2.2g of fiber making it 6.1 net carbs. This recipe makes 2 servings so depending on your strawberry size it’s around 4 carbs of strawberries minus the fiber bringing it back down closer to 2 net carbs. Hope that helps!

  4. Belen Cantu

In response to the carb count and net carb count it is still not making sense. You are subtracting fiber twice? You can only subtract it once to get net carbs.

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

Nope! You are only counting fiber once. I was showing the whole recipe vs single servings.

  5. Lisa

    That looks good!

  6. David

I would really like to know where you get your strawberries and what kind because I have looked at numerous ones and none of them have sugar alcohol in them. Just sugar. Great Value strawberries is what I’m looking at. Net carbs would put them at 15 net carbs.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Hi David! Thanks so much for commenting. The values above have been updated. Using a fresh organic strawberry is a little lower in carb count. These strawberries do not have sugar alcohols. Hope this helps!
