Recently, we saw this delicious ice cream idea over on the @traderjoeslist Instagram page where she used some frozen blueberries to whip up the sweet dessert. And the best part, only 3 simple ingredients were required, so we knew we had to give this refreshing summer treat a try, and of course, make it keto! 🙌

Are you a visual learner? This 3-ingredient keto ice cream recipe is SO easy to make that we even created a YouTube video:

Here are a few recipe tips to keep in mind when making this 3-ingredient keto ice cream:

  • Store-bought frozen berries are perfect for this recipe, however, when berries are in season, you could also pick some delicious fresh berries and freeze them prior to making this recipe.
  • I had delicious results with unsweetened almond milk mixed with heavy cream. However, if you want a smoother consistency, use all heavy cream instead. For a less heavy and rich ice cream, go with all almond milk.
  • You can try this recipe with many different frozen berries that mash up easily. I tried it with blueberries and raspberries, but strawberries and blackberries could be another option.
  • I found I needed to add less almond milk/heavy cream with the raspberries. You may want to start with a little less than the recipe below calls for when testing out different berry varieties.

Making the recipe is incredibly simple. All you need are your favorite frozen berries, milk of your choice, and a little time to mix it together!

We tried this recipe out with blueberries and raspberries and loved the results with almond milk, although, you can get an even creamier consistency with some heavy cream. SO YUMMY!

  1. Leanne

Thanks! This was so good and so easy! I was in need of something sweet but had no energy to make anything too involved. Threw this together and the whole family loved it and asked for seconds!

    • Leanne

Question though, I went to input this into the Carb Manager app, using their recipe upload feature and it is calculating the nutrition differently. It has the fiber content for a serving at 2.5, not 5. So I went and checked the package for the Trader Joe’s blueberries I used, they have 17 carbs and 4g fiber per cup, making the blueberries alone 6.5 net carbs per 1/2 cup serving. Can you confirm? Thanks!

      • Emily (Hip Sidekick)

Hi Leanne, I’m so glad to hear you enjoyed this recipe! I think the confusion was that our nutritional information was based on the recipe using raspberries rather than blueberries, but it definitely makes more sense for us to show both.

I’ve updated the post to include both variations and I think it will now align with your findings on the frozen blueberries. I hope that helps clarify the nutrition, and thank you for sharing your feedback with us! 😊

        • Leelur

          I appreciate you clarifying! 😀

    • Angie (Hip2Keto Sidekick)

Hi Leanne! So glad your family loved it! I just made some myself last week and it quickly dissapeared ❤

  2. Ellen T Simpson

Nice. But when you are hooked on sweets a half cup is a trigger to disaster. Maybe when I on Keto diet longer.

    • Angie (Hip2Keto Sidekick)

Hi Ellen! It’s super delicious and healthy. But I can understand it being a trigger. Once your fat adapted you can easily add keto treats back in at your discretion ❤ Good luck on your journey! If you haven’t already your welcome to join us in the community on Facebook.

  3. Kaydee

Can you make this with undiluted evaporated milk instead of cream? I always have evaporated milk in my pantry. I rarely buy heavy cream

    • Angie (Hip2Keto Sidekick)

Hi Kaydee! That is a great question, however evaporated milk is not a low carb/keto food. Due to the high lactose content it can cause fluctuations in your glucose levels adversely effecting your state of ketosis. You could just use all almond milk or coconut milk. The macros would change but it would still be low carb/keto. You can use a free app like carb manager to decipher the macros as well as find out what foods are best for a Ketogenic lifestyle.

Do you put it in the freezer, or eat as is?

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

      Just eat it!

  5. Leslie

Hello, thank you for the recipe. I am wondering if I can use xanthin gum as a thickener because I will be using coconut milk and strawberries only in your recipe. Thank you for taking the time to answer.

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

You can, BUT use it sparingly. Start with 1/8 teaspoon and mix very well. Let us know how it works for you, Leslie!

      • Leslie

Hello Jennifer, thank you for taking the time to answer and giving me a starting place for the measurement of the gum. I WILL let you know how it works. I have strawberries that I have frozen and am going to start with those. Have a great day and please stay safe.

  6. pamrin

Looks delicious. Can you blend it to make a smoother consistency?

    • Angie (Hip2Keto Sidekick)

Hi Pamrin! I did throw mine in a Ninja blender and it had a soft serve icecream consistency. I saved half for the next night and just had to let it defrost a bit before eating. It was delicious. Hope this helps❤

  7. Keeton

Berries of any sort has sugar. Albiet natural sugar.
Is natural sugar Keto approved? If so, then I can enjoy my bananas.
