bolthouse farms keto smoothies in fridge

Need a quick keto breakfast, lunch, or snack idea?

I don’t know about you but my mornings are typically pretty busy. Between work and trying to get my teenager out the door and off to school, I don’t often have a lot of time to make breakfast. I’m also not a coffee drinker (sorry Collin! 😆) so I’m always in search of something easy to grab and go.

I recently spotted these Bolthouse Farms protein keto drinks at the grocery store and figured they were worth a shot.

My expectations were high because their regular smoothies are so yummy (but so very high in carbs), and I was hoping the same for these keto versions. Could this low-carb rendition live up to the hype?

bolthouse farms keto protein drink

These keto protein drinks come in so many flavors!

Bolthouse Farms Protein KETO Drinks are available in seven different flavors with three of them being plant-based. I’ve spotted these drinks at Kroger, Publix, Walmart, Sprouts, and Target in various sizes and range from $2-$4 in price, and Kroger often has them on sale BOGO free.

You’ll typically find them in the produce, dairy, or deli sections of the store with the other refrigerated Bolthouse Farms smoothies. I grabbed the six flavors that were available at my store so I could do a taste test for ya and let you know what I think!

Heads up: This is not a sponsored post. I just wanted to share my honest feedback about this convenient grab-n-go keto beverage!

bolthouse farms dark chocolate

Bolthouse Farms Protein KETO Dark Chocolate

Serving Size 1 15.2oz Container | 280 Calories | 22g Fat | 16g Total Carbs | 2g Fiber | 1g Sugar | 11g Sugar Alcohol | 15g Protein | 3g Net Carbs

Ingredients: Coconut Milk (Water, Coconut Cream), Milk Protein Isolate, Erythritol, MCT Oil, Cocoa Powder (Processed With Alkali), Sunflower Lecithin, Natural Flavor, Dipotassium Phosphate, Carob Bean Gum, Gellan Gum, Sea Salt, Reb M (Stevia Leaf Extract)

I really enjoyed this flavor and it made me feel like I was having a thinner version of chocolate milk. Remember those YooHoo Chocolate drinks that were popular when we were growing up? That’s what it reminded me of, but with a much richer taste. I’ll for sure be buying this flavor again! And this was definitely my second runner up.

I did read a review on Walmart.com that mentioned that the person had a tummy ache after having this drink. I usually have a sensitive stomach with many keto foods, however, I had no problem with these drinks.

bolthouse farms coconut

Bolthouse Farms Protein KETO Coconut

Serving Size 1 15.2oz Container | 280 Calories | 22g Fat | 14g Total Carbs | 0g Fiber | 1g Sugar | 11g Sugar Alcohol | 15g Protein | 3g Net Carbs

Ingredients: Coconut Milk (Water, Coconut Cream), Milk Protein Isolate, Erythritol, MCT Oil, Sunflower Lecithin, Natural Flavor, Dipotassium Phosphate, Carob Bean Gum, Gellan Gum, Sea Salt, Sea Salt, Reb M (Stevia Leaf Extract)

The Bolthouse Protein Keto Coconut drink is a home run for me! It’s really refreshing and packs a bit of sweetness to it. I’d say consistency-wise this drink is a little bit thinner than the other flavor varieties. I’ll absolutely buy this flavor again.

The coconut variety is the clear winner for me over all the other flavors!

bolthouse farms keto coffee

Bolthouse Farms Protein KETO Coffee

Serving Size: 1 Container – 15.2oz | 280 Calories | 22g Fat | 15g Total Carbs | 1g Fiber | 1g Sugar | 11g Sugar Alcohol | 15g Protein | 3g Net Carbs

Ingredients: Coconut Milk (Water, Coconut Cream), Milk Protein Isolate, Erythritol, MCT Oil, Coffee Extract, Sunflower Lecithin, Dipotassium Phosphate, Natural Flavor, Carob Bean Gum, Gellan Gum, Sea Salt, Reb M (Stevia Leaf Extract)

First, let me start off by saying I’m one of the few people out there that is not a coffee drinker. That being said, this coffee-flavored Bolthouse Farms drink is sure to be a favorite if you love coffee. It has a robust coffee taste and didn’t have any sort of weird sweetener aftertaste to it.

Honestly, even though I’m not a fan of coffee, I’d actually drink this one again. PS – It tastes even better in my New Kids on the Block coffee mug! 😉

bolthouse farms cinnamon horchata

Bolthouse Farms Plant-Based Protein KETO Cinnamon Horchata

Serving Size: 1 Container – 15.2oz | 240 Calories | 21g Fat | 15g Total Carbs | 2g Fiber | 1g Sugar | 11g Sugar Alcohol | 12g Protein | 2g Net Carbs

Ingredients: Coconut Milk (Water, Coconut Cream), Pea Protein, Erythritol, MCT Oil, Sunflower Lecithin, Dipotassium Phosphate, Cinnamon, Natural Flavour, Gellan Gum, Carob Bean Gum, Sea Salt, Reb M (Stevia Leaf Extract)

The cinnamon horchata was hands down my favorite of the plant-based flavors. There was no weird after-taste, and I almost felt like I was drinking the milk that is left after a bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cereal. This was a nice flavor option for something different versus the chocolate varieties. This is a close runner up to the chocolate.

hazelnut

Bolthouse Farms Plant-Based Protein KETO Hazelnut Fudge

Serving Size: 1 Container – 15.2oz | 230 Calories | 20g Fat | 16g Total Carbs | 3g Fiber | 1g Sugar | 11g Sugar Alcohol | 12g Protein | 2g Net Carbs

Ingredients: Coconut Milk (Water, Coconut Cream), Pea Protein, Erythritol, MCT Oil, Contains 2% Or Less: Hazelnut Butter, Cocoa Powder, Sunflower Lecithin, Dipotassium Phosphate, Natural Flavors, Gellan Gum, Carob Bean Gum, Sea Salt, Reb M (Stevia Leaf Extract), Hazelnut

The plant-based hazelnut fudge was just okay for me. While it’s not bad, I was hoping for it to taste like I was drinking Nutella. The hazelnut flavor is pretty muted in my opinion, and it tastes sort of earthy. I’m not sure how to explain it, but I can for sure tell that it’s plant-based, or at least different than their regular keto protein drink flavors.

mocha

Bolthouse Farms Plant-Based Protein KETO Mocha Truffle Latte

Serving Size: 1 Container – 15.2oz | 230 Calories | 19g Fat | 15g Total Carbs | 1g Fiber | 1g Sugar | 11g Sugar Alcohol | 12g Protein | 3g Net Carbs

Ingredients: Coconut Milk (Water, Coconut Cream), Pea Protein, Erythritol, Contains 2% Or Less: Coffee Extract, MCT Oil, Sunflower Lecithin, Cocoa Extract, Dipotassium Phosphate, Natural Flavors, Gellan Gum, Carob Bean Gum, Sea Salt, Vanilla Extract, Reb M (Stevia Leaf Extract)

This plant-based mocha truffle latte flavor missed the mark for me. You can for sure taste the mocha flavor, and I will say this flavor is richer than the hazelnut fudge. I can’t put my finger on it, but the plant-based versions just aren’t as tasty, and they have an aftertaste that I’m not a fan of.

keto drink

Bolthouse Farms Protein KETO Matcha

Serving Size: 1 Container – 15.2oz | 280 Calories | 22g Fat | 15g Total Carbs | 2g Fiber | 1g Sugar | 11g Sugar Alcohol | 15g Protein | 2g Net Carbs

Ingredients: Coconut Milk (Water, Coconut Cream), Milk Protein Isolate, Erythritol, MCT Oil, Matcha Green Tea, Sunflower Lecithin, Natural Flavor, Dipotassium Phosphate, Carob Bean Gum, Gellan Gum, Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C To Preserve Color), Reb M (Stevia Leaf Extract)

Sadly, this flavor was not available at any of the stores I shop at, so I was unable to do a taste test on this one.😭 The reviews on Target.com are not very favorable on this flavor, I’m not much of a matcha person so I’m not sure if I’d like this one.

We realize that many consider these protein drinks to be dirty keto, so please keep that in mind when deciding if these drinks are something you want to add to your snack options.

I don’t understand the net carb calculation. I thought net carbs were carbs minus fiber?

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Hi Sharon! “For net carbs, you subtract the dietary fiber count and sugar alcohols (if any) from the total carbs.” You can find more details on that in #6 here – https://hip2keto.com/tips/read-nutritional-label-keto/ Hope this helps!

      • Bonnie Parmenter

Thank you for the explanation. I was also confused about how that was calculated.

        • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

          You’re very welcome!

Can these drinks be served warm?

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Hi Nancy! We haven’t tried them warm, however they may taste best cold. Hope that helps!
