Is there a sugar-free syrup I can use on keto pancakes?

Lakanto Maple Flavored Sugar-Free Syrup is a great alternative. However, I started using pure maple syrup extract in melted butter or in homemade whipped cream with powdered Swerve. It adds the maple flavor without the syrup.

Which medications can be affected by nutritional ketosis? 

We ask our keto nutritionist about syrup, medication (like this Bayer aspirin), and hunger

All medications, including over-the-counter (OTC) ones like Ibuprofen and Tylenol, can be enhanced by ketosis, which is why so many people on medication are able to reduce the dosage or completely come off altogether.

Everyone is different, and if you are on a prescribed form of medication, you should discuss the dosage with your doctor if you are starting the ketogenic diet. If you periodically take OTC medications, you may find you can get by with half the dosing. Again, check with your doctor if you have questions.


Why do I still feel hungry even after a week on keto? 

If you’re not gaining the benefit of appetite suppression, you likely need to add more fat. Fat is the key to feeling full. Also, cravings still tend to appear until you have become fully fat-adapted, which usually takes a couple weeks – and sometimes more depending on the person.

Be patient and double check to make sure you are:

  • in ketosis
  • not overdoing carbs/protein
  • adding in enough fat
  • staying well hydrated and on top of electrolytes

When we went low carb we started using Splenda rather than sugar. It works well; it’s not as thick as corn syrup based pancake syrups, but the taste is there.
